Article: Sophisticated in Suede

Sophisticated in Suede

With many shoes featured in box calf and grain calf this year, we thought it was time to add more suede to our shoe rotation. For this month, our GMTO highlights the richness and sophistication of suede in three unique combinations.

Our first shoe is our Brossa Derby Boot, a new mid-cut model that we introduced earlier this year originally in box calf. With a bolder silhouette, reminiscent of a more rugged American work boot, we wanted to make a version in suede for a slightly softer, more elegant feel to them.

Brossa features our round toe last, six eyelet lacing, cap toe accented with brogues, simplified brogues on the facings, and embroidery up the heel.

We selected a semi lined ankle shaft which is less restrictive, a Vibram button sole for grip and cushioning, and a ¾ storm welt for additional weather protection in natural, which is also a nice design touch.

The taupe valentine suede from Charles Stead is a versatile earth tone that can easily be combined with most colors and will stand out beautifully when worn with darker clothing.

Our second featured shoe is our new Xavier Moc Toe Derby. With the popularity of our Gaspar and Tete Derby in the last couple of years, we wanted to round out our moc toe offering with a new version in suede.

Xavier features four eyelet lacing, a chiseled toe with a carefully hand stitched apron, our signature asymmetric pattern with no center back seam, and a Vibram Button Sole for grip and weather resistance.

We selected chocolate suede with a silvery brown stitching to highlight the design lines, and applied subtle patina accents for added depth.

Our final shoe is a distinctly beautiful new version of our Roy Balmoral Derby Boot. We introduced Roy last year in box calf and vegano inca and since then we've been eager to make another version in a different combination of leathers.

This year we paired French box calf leather from Tanneries du Puy with suede from Charles Stead, a strikingly rich combination that is uniquely elegant yet warm and familiar.

Roy features four eyelets and three speed hook lacing, an unlined ankle shaft for comfort, embroidery detailing on the back heel, an elegant balmoral seam which wraps around the boot, and a comfortable Vibram Rubber Button Sole.

With a bolder combination of upper materials, we balanced out the design with chocolate brown box calf and suede, a classic color that will be easy to combine with your daily wardrobe.

Our Brossa Boot in Taupe Valentine Suede, Xavier Moc Toe Derby, and our Roy Balmoral Derby Boot are now available in our GMTO through the end-of-day Tuesday, August 3rd.

All shoes are bench made, Goodyear-welted, and hand finished by our artisan team in Spain before shipment. This process includes the use of glass, sandpaper, inks, creams, waxes, fire and multiple iron tools to achieve a bespoke quality finishing that the Norman Vilalta brand has become known for.

If you would like to place your order with a 50% deposit, use the code GMTODEPOSIT during checkout. The balance will be collected before the final shipment of your shoes.

Changes to the upper, lining, last, width, sole, and patina of the shoes are available with a 200 euro change fee. Please email sales@normanvilalta.com for any questions or change requests. Bespoke or fully handmade versions are available as well.
