A SPanish Accent

When I first began designing what would become the Velázquez Boot, I wasn’t looking to reinvent the Jodhpur. I have too much respect for its history to do that.

Instead, I wanted to contribute something personal—something that could expand the language of classic footwear while honoring its roots.

The original Jodhpur boot, as many of you know, was born in India and brought into English riding culture in the 19th century.

But my own inspiration came not only from that legacy, but from something closer to home. I’m from Argentina but my family has roots in Spain, and growing up, I was always fascinated by the old Cartujano work boots worn by horsemen in the countryside—rugged, with wide woven straps crossing the vamp for added hold in the stirrups.

This image never left me.

In the Velázquez, I’ve fused these two traditions: the elegance of the Jodhpur with the character of the Spanish field boot, essentially the "Spanish Jodhpur".

The result is a distinctive silhouette with four woven straps that wrap cleanly across the vamp and through the upper. The vamp and toebox are one unbroken piece of leather—elongated, sleek, and uninterrupted—allowing the shape and fine craftsmanship to speak for itself.

This boot, like every shoe in our 1202 Heritage Collection, is fully handmade: hand-lasted, hand-welted, outsole-stitched by hand, and hand-finished to the same standard as our bespoke work.

This Spanish Jodhpur is a piece of who I am, and a small contribution to the world of classic men’s footwear that I hope will endure.

We’ve named the Spanish Jodhpur Velázquez, after one of Spain’s greatest artists—an homage to the Spanish soul of the design, and the level of artistry we strive for with every pair.

We've currently allocated 8 pairs of this special boot in our bespoke queue on a first come, first serve basis.
