The Asymmetric Pattern
One detail of our shoes that is sometimes overlooked is our Asymmetric Pattern, our signature pattern-making technique for footwear design.
We produced the following new video to help you to better understand the Asymmetric Pattern detail visually:
On most shoes, there is a center-back seam which creates the vertical curve to hook the heel of your foot. When Norman Vilalta started to make shoes, he didn't like the aesthetics of this seam line and so he designed his own method to include the proper curve of the heel, but hide it within the shoe pattern of the heel counter, heel collar, quarters and vamp.
While the Asymmetric Pattern requires us to cut from larger pieces of leather since the pattern pieces are longer and the pattern is more difficult to create since the curve is eased into two diagonal pattern pieces, the results are a shoe that has a more sophisticated design and stramlined silhouette.
