Atelier Series No. 5

A matter of character

Introducing the Lorenzo Loafer
October 20 – November 3, 2026

There is something unmistakable about a design shaped by someone with a point of view.

For Atelier Series No. 5, Norman Vilalta introduces the Lorenzo Loafer, a familiar silhouette approached with a different sense of proportion and character.

The Lorenzo brings a more relaxed perspective to the traditional penny loafer. Its rounded silhouette features a relatively short, sleek toe box, while the shortened penny strap ends at the apron rather than extending across the sides of the shoe.

The substantial profile of the Vibram Gumlite Commando sole adds another distinctive element, balancing the clean lines of the upper with a more rugged, contemporary character.

Finished in our Smoked Mahogany patina, the Lorenzo brings together familiar ideas in a design that feels entirely its own.

A Finish of it's Own

For Norman, color is never simply the final step in making a shoe. It is an opportunity to explore its personality, bringing depth and individuality to the original design.

Smoked Mahogany was developed with this idea in mind.

Applied by hand to Repello suede from the renowned English tannery Charles F. Stead, the patina moves between warm reddish-brown tones, deep smoky shadows, and subtle ashen highlights.

The natural texture of the suede gives these colors a particular richness, revealing different nuances as the light changes.

In our Barcelona workshop, Norman works alongside his artisans, exploring finishes and refining the details that give his shoes their identity.

It is this direct connection between design and making that remains central to our work. An idea can be explored, adjusted, and developed through the experience of the people working with the materials every day.

The Smoked Mahogany finish reflects that approach, bringing a personal and expressive character to the Lorenzo's otherwise understated silhouette.

Made for living

A beautifully made shoe should offer more than something to admire. It should become a natural part of the life of the person wearing it.

With the Lorenzo, Norman brings a relaxed sensibility to the traditional penny loafer. The rounded silhouette and shortened strap create a distinctive balance of proportions, while the 360-degree storm welt, finished with decorative pinking, adds definition and character.

The Vibram Gumlite Commando sole plays an equally important role in the design. Its pronounced tread and substantial profile provide a striking contrast to the clean suede upper, while its lightweight construction makes it well suited to everyday wear.

Together, these elements create a loafer that feels equally at home with tailored wool trousers, denim, or relaxed weekend clothing.

Because ultimately, the character of a shoe is found not only in the hands that make it, but also in the life it shares with the person who wears it.
