A Study in Patina and Precision
I’ve long believed that a great shoe should do three things at once: elevate the wearer, whisper its craftsmanship to those who notice, and leave a trace—quiet but unmistakable—of the place in which it was born.
Today, I’m proud to introduce the newest chapter in that philosophy: the James Penny Loafer in Repello suede, rendered in our handmade Romero patina.

I chose Charles F. Stead’s Repello suede for one simple reason: it feels alive under your fingertips.
Its velvety hand speaks of Yorkshire mills and time-tested tanning secrets, but it also absorbs colour like no other—so when we lay on the Romero patina, the green settles into the nap, coaxing out earthy tan undertones that shift in different light.
Think of moss after rain catching a stray beam of sun; that’s the hue we captured.
Pattern matters just as much as material, and for this pair I drew an asymmetric design that eliminates the center-back seam. The heel, uninterrupted, feels almost sculptural—especially when paired with our pitched heel. From collar to floor the line is crisp, precise, uncompromising.
You’ll see the same discipline in the welt: Goodyear-welted and finished by hand in our Barcelona workshop—ink, edge, patina, polish—until the shoe acquires the soft glow of perfection.

Slip your foot inside and you’ll meet an embroidered, padded insole that remembers you each time you return. It’s a subtle luxury, invisible from the outside, but to me that’s the mark of honest craftsmanship: beauty that serves the wearer first and the passer-by second.
How to wear them? Let the colour do the talking. With a dark navy suit the green sparks like a thoughtful aside. With raw denim it feels deliberate yet unforced. And with earth-tone trousers—khaki, tobacco, olive—it finds its natural habitat, harmonising rather than competing.

In a world that often settles for quick impressions, this loafer rewards closer inspection. It’s a tasteful statement, yes, but also an invitation to slow down, to notice the stitch count, the curve of the vamp, the way the patina deepens over time.
I built it for the man who enjoys that ritual—who understands that refinement is less about shouting and more about speaking just loudly enough for the right people to listen.
Welcome, then, to the latest member of our Readymade Condal collection. I hope it walks many miles with you.
